Abstract

Ulcerations of variant etiology arising from causative factors like injuries, haemorrhagic lesions, skin lesions, systemic diseases like diabetes, malnutrition, tissues damage and stomatitis have oft challenged medical practitioners warranting a comprehensive and effective medication. The present study outlines the pharmacological status and antibacterial activity of Jatyadi Gritha, a polyherbal Ayurvedic drug. Differential combinations of Jatyadi Ghrita 1 and 2 were analysed for their antibacterial activity and compared with Povidone Iodine by testing them against potent skin pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Strepcoccus pyogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Corynebacterium ulcerans and Propionibacterium acnes. The drug tested for the bacterial susceptibility test included MIC, MBC, Break points and serum bactericidal activity level. The studies vividly indicated the drug’s efficacy of bactericidal activity against the pathegens, wherein marked reduction in growth and zone formations were observed. Objective: To investigate the Pharmacological [Wound Healing] and Antibacterial activity of Jatyadi Ghrita Methods: The Pharmacological and Antibacterial activity of Jatyadi Ghrita was tested in the Laboratory. Povidone Iodine was used as the standard drug for comparison. Results: Administration of Jatyadi Ghrita markedly prevented the Bacterial activity and growth and helped rapid healing of the Ulcer. The results are comparable to that of Povidon Iodine. A comparative histopathological study of the Ulcer exhibited almost normal architecture, as compared to control group. Conclusion: Treatment with Jatyadi Ghrita significantly reduced the Bacterial infection. A comparative histological study of Ulcer from different groups further confirmed the Wound Healing and Antibacterial activity of Jatyadi Ghrita
