Abstract
Alopecia areata is one among the most prevalent human autoimmune diseases, leading to the disfiguring of hair loss due to the collapse of immune privilege of the hair follicle and subsequent autoimmune attack.Generally, hair loss in patches signifies alopecia areata . Typically the conditions are exemplified with a gradual or sudden hair loss on head, eyebrows, eyelashes, nasal, ear and other areas of the body causing patchy appearance. Present report is an evaluation on the therapeutic efficacy of Ayurvedic formulations in Alopecia Areata. Fifteen alopecia areata patients of either sex with varying degrees of hair loss were randomly selected for the clinical trial and were treated with ‘Indralupta Bhasma’, ‘Malathyadi Tailam’ and ‘Guduchi tablet’ for 3-5 months. Most patients were observed bi monthly up to 5 months. The trial was carried out at Viswanath Ayurvedic Hospital,Shengottai. The study vividly indicated the efficacy of the Ayurvedic formulations in Alopecia Areata. The trial medicines proved very effective in minimizing the patchy hair loss and further confirmed full re growth of hair on the affected parts.
